He found all that he could and granted them solace in his sanctuary. A benevolent union formed between the gods, and a great love existed between them. Out of admiration for Lord Karsanthur, the gods presented him with gifts. As time passed, Ault, the table of divine gifts was wrought out of reverence for the high God. The World of Ault

As with most adventures, this book may be adapted to any setting. If this is the first The Doom of Ault adventure for a party, below is a brief synopsis of the world where this adventure takes place.

Lumos, the space that encompasses the world of Ault, began as a haven to lost gods of a catastrophic past. In this place of peace they returned to their impulse to create beautiful things. They humble presented these as gifts to Karsanthur. For it was the high god that had created the sanctuary that had been their salvation.

While the host of gods reveled in their newfound home, not all was as it should be. Some became prideful of the work they had done. They considered their creations superior to other gifts and felt they should be given greater esteem. This became particularly troublesome when the first children of Ault emerged. Elves were the creation of Glyndwar and Alcantar, as a reflection of the gods, they were unsurpassed by any other gift. When they were revealed many other gods blessed them with abilities according to their talent’s. The elves loved all the gods but favored the two gods who created them.

Soon, other gods created their own children. Fulk created the dwarves and Merwyn the merfolk. Feltre fashioned the drakes from the immortal dragons as his beloved. Though reluctant to disturb the fate of Ault, Taurn crafted the Stell. Other races were spawned as well, but these were not considered the children of the gods. Though the gods loved each other, they became enamored with their children. Inevitable, strife grew between the gods.

Era of Eminence

After a time the gifts to Karsanthur slowed to a trickle, the gods became occupied in furthering their position on Ault. It wasn’t long before conflict arose between the children of the gods, thus began an endless war that stretched across the world. At times the gods would gather to try and resolve the animosity they had wrought. Mostly, they looked for answers that would further their ends, which only deepened the divide. At the end of this era the world was doomed to perish, Not only were the gods hopllessly at odds, but an evil from the dark void had crept in. The malice of the god Astulf had poisoned those that dwelt on Ault. The curse he bestowed doomed the children of the gods.

Era of Redemption

Throughout this ordeal the high god Karsanthur watched regretfully. As events turned against a particular race, each of the gods begged him for mercy. After the betrayal of Astulf the entire host came humbly before him. They begged him for forgiveness and swore to accept any remeady he commanded. Many believed he would simply remove the children of the gods. However, his answer was to create a new race. So it came to pass that mankind was released into the world. Karsanthur declared them a gift to his brethren, to redeem and fulfill the spirit of the gifts they had given.
